General Guidelines for Award Categories

Individual      Clinic       Friends of WIC


Individual Excellence Awards
Individual Excellence awards are presented to individual WIC staff who demonstrate excellence in various roles in the WIC Program.  These roles include:

1.    Clerk/Receptionist

2.    Certifier

3.    WIC Coordinator

4.    RD/Nutritionist

5.    Breastfeeding Coordinator

6.    Leadership/Supervision

7.    Other Staff Position

 

General guidelines for Individual Excellence may include:
(please reflect in the nomination)

·       Provides quality client services through excellence in practice;

·       Skilled in functional aspects of practice, i.e., nutrition assessment, motivation interviewing, behavior change, counseling, computer savy, customer service, multi-tasking, group facilitation for nutrition education, accessing community resources, etc.;

·       Motivates and inspires the people around them to accomplish more;

·       Inspires a high level commitment from others;

·       Demonstrates creativity in practice - in nutrition education, breastfeeding promotion, clinic flow and environment, staff morale and recognition;

·       Active and innovative in problem solving with clients and colleagues and clinic;

·       Treats others with respect, and encourages and openly considers feedback;

·       Actively shares responsibility, authority, information and credit when working towards the achievement of a goal;

·       Takes prompt decisive action to resolve issues quickly and effectively;

·       Communicates in a manner which is fair, straightforward, honorable and open;

·       Accomplishments exceed usual work expectations;

·       Sets a high standard of integrity by leading through example and maintains high personal standards.

“Other Staff Position” category includes those staff whose work is essential in the day-to-day operations of WIC, but who don’t fit into the other individual award categories.  Examples include:  administrative assistants, warehouse staff, trainers, administrative coordinators and managers, & other administrative technical support type staff.

WIC Clinic Excellence Awards
 

Exceptional Teamwork: Presented to a clinic or an agency team who have demonstrated extraordinary teamwork and camaraderie.

  General guidelines may include:
 

·       Everyone works together to solve problem(s) in a positive, cooperative, and efficient manner;

·       Staff help each other identify areas of improvement and then implement them;

·       Staff are courteous and respectful to each other;

·       Nomination provides an example of a project the team worked on together that resulted in a significant improvement in client services. 

Creative Nutrition Education: Presented to a clinic where team members worked together to develop creative innovative ways to provide nutrition education opportunities for clients. 

  General guidelines may include
 

·       Delivers information in a culturally-sensitive and meaningful way;

·       Achieves positive health outcomes (e.g. improvement in eating and/or lifestyle-related behaviors; positive client feedback);

·       Uses client-centered approaches and methods;

Nutrition education permeates entire site, influencing staff as well as WIC clients, and extending into the community where possible.

Innovative Breastfeeding Promotion & Support Activities:  Presented to a clinic where team members worked together to develop creative innovative ways to provide breastfeeding promotion & support activities or events for clients. 

General guidelines may include

  • Delivers information in a culturally-sensitive and meaningful way;

·       Achieves positive health outcomes (e.g. increases breastfeeding duration, positive client feedback)

·       Uses client-centered approaches and methods;

·       Provides leadership, promotion, and support in the community as well as with clients
 

Friend of WIC Award 
(formerly Community Excellence)

Outstanding Community Partner: Presented to a non-WIC community group, organization, or individual for their collaboration and partnership with the WIC community. 

General guidelines may include:

·       Advocate for anti-hunger and nutrition issues and programs;

·       Demonstrates generosity, a giving spirit, graciousness, and commitment;

·       Partnership has a positive impact on the health and well-being of WIC families, staff, projects, and communities;

·       Partnership results in outcomes that wouldn’t have necessarily been achievable without the partnership

·       Commitment and ability to “build bridges” that celebrate our differences

·       Inspires others to service

Outstanding Retailer: Presented to a retailer who provides extraordinary customer service to the WIC community.  

 

General guidelines may include:

·       Demonstrates outstanding customer service in support of the mission of the Washington WIC Program;

·       Works to uphold and ensure the integrity of the WIC Program;

·       Provides exemplary customer service everyday;

·       Exceeds the expectations of WIC clients and staff;

·       Has effectively and efficiently corrected something that has gone wrong;

·       Demonstrates creativity or resourcefulness in assisting clients;

·       Develops new and efficient ways to solve customer service problems;

·          Responds in an unusually fast or efficient manner
