Advocacy
Advocacy is simply "speaking up" and WALWICA speaks
up on a variety of issues that affect local WIC staff and the
WIC Program in general. WALWICA serves as a voice for local
WIC staff and their agencies on issues that may affect them
directly such as program and policy changes at the state or
federal level. Advocacy involves the education of our communities
and our decision makers at the local, state, and federal level.
WALWICA is a organizational member of several groups who collectively
advocate for issues that affect our most vulnerable populations.
WALWICA has worked closely with the Anti-Hunger and Nutrition
Coalition and the Advocates for Famililes and Farms to increase
support and funding for the Farmers Market Nutrition Program.

Communication
WALWICA publishes a quarterly newsletter that provides information
on nutrition, physical activity and breastfeeding so that members
can stay up to date on new programs and resources, emerging
research and best practices. The newsletter also updates members
on current WALWICA activities. The newsletter is a valued member
benefit.

Education
& training
WALWICA organizes and coordinates multiple trainings troughout
the year for local WIC staff. WALWICA works with the state DOH
WIC Program to convene biennial and regional breastfeeding promotion
trainings and to plan the annual state WIC conference. WALWICA
has also partnered with the DOH Maternal and Infant Health Program
to conduct ABCs of First Steps/MSS and First Steps/MSS regional
trainings.
